Floye Knouft 1920-2021
Floye Madge Knouft, 100, of Holton, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021 at Holton Community Hospital.
She was born Dec. 15, 1920, near Havensville, the daughter of Harley and Estella A. (Kroth) Manuel.
Floye attended Buck’s Grove Grade School and graduated from Havensville High School in 1938. She lived in the Holton community since 1942.
Floye taught at country schools in Jackson and Pottawatomie counties for five years. She owned and operated, with her husband, The Hamburger Inn (“The Dump”) in Holton for more than 23 years. After retirement, she was a custodian for Kansas State Bank.
She was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church, King’s Daugthers Sunday School Class and Faith Faust Circle. She was also a member of the Jackson County Historical Society, Holton Business Women and Holton Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Floye was a 2020 Holton/Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame inductee.
Floye married Donald Charles “Deke” Knouft on Nov. 27, 1942, in Holton. He preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1985, after 43 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her son, Mickey Knouft, on Dec. 31, 2008; two sisters, Isla Herbert and Nola Boggio; and a brother, Milton L. Manuel.
Survivors include her son, Mark L. Knouft (Debby) of Circleville; three granddaughters, Carly Fletcher (Brett), Lindsay Alley (Ryan) and Tara Ladusch (Lloyd) all of Circleville; and six great-grandchildren, Taygen and Jayden Fletcher, Abri and Adalie Alley and Leslie and Leah Ladusch.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 13 at Evangel United Methodist Church. Private family burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Floye will lie in state at Mercer Funeral Home until 6 p.m. Monday.
