Evelyn Lewis 1927-2017
Evelyn Lewis, 90, of Holton, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017, at The Pines in Holton.
She was born March 6, 1927, in Everest, the daughter of Herbert and Sarah (Sawyer) Streeter.
Evelyn graduated from Everest High School in 1945. She has lived all of her life in northeast Kansas. Evelyn was a homemaker and farmwife. She was a member of the Evangel United Methodist Church, King’s Daughters Sunday School Class and Art and Home Club, all in Holton.
She married Gale Mellenbruch on May 15, 1945, in Everest; he preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1975. She married William “Buck” Lewis on Sept. 23, 1982, in Seneca; he preceded her in death on April 30, 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Loy Mellenbruch (Karen) of Holton and Earl Mellenbruch (Lori) of Soldier; two daughters, Janette Gill (Roger) of Wetmore and Carol Gusenius (Bill) of Lindsborg; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha. Family will greet friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
