Emma Walsh 1929-2022
Emma Lee Walsh, 92, Denton, died Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at her home.
She was born June 30, 1929, to Thomas and Sarah Friend Shulsky. She attended Union Grade School, Denton High School and Highland College. After graduating from college she moved to Topeka with her sister Sarah Ann and her mother.
Mrs. Walsh worked for the State Board of Nursing, then at Forbes Field in Topeka. She and her husband moved back to her home place south of Denton, where they farmed for nearly 35 years. She started working at the Denton Post Office and then transferred to the St. Joseph Post Office, retiring in 1995.
She was a longtime member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church of Bendena and the Women’s Council at the church.
She married Dale Walsh on Sept. 22, 1951. He died in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include six children, Casey Walsh and wife Jane, Carol Coirier and husband Patrice, Gerre Martin and husband Jeff, Paula Graney and husband Tim, Mary Jo Cushing and husband Jeff and Keith Walsh; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A parish rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 1 at St. Benedict’s Church at Bendena, with mass of Christian burial to be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday.
