Dorothy Kester 1945-2024

Dorothy I. Kester, 78, Hoyt, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at her home near Hoyt.

She was born Nov. 23, 1945, in Paola, the daughter of Dewey and Laura Bumgarner Sampson. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1963.

Mrs. Kester had worked in various agencies for the State of Kansas for 27 years. She then worked for 24 years for the U.S. Postal Service.

She was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the Kansas Quarter Horse Association, serving as treasurer for 13 years. She was also a member of 4-H.

She married Howard L. Kester on Feb. 16, 1968, in Squires, Mo. He survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Dennis Kester and Edward Kester and his wife Melaine, all of Hoyt; a brother, Charles Sampson, Grants Pass, Ore.; a sister, Pamela Sue Molloy, Phoenix, Ariz.; and three grandchildren, Dennis Jacob Kester, Alexandria Shea Kester and Wyatt Samuel Kester. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Sharon.

Memorial graveside services will be announced at a later date and held in St. Joseph Cemetery at Hoyt.
