Doris Oxandale 1934-2023
Doris Mae Oxandale, 89, Wetmore, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, at Holton Community Hospital.
She was born Aug. 13, 1934, in Goff, the daughter of Gerald Francis and Ruby Marie Porter Sourk. She graduated from Goff High School in 1952, earned her teaching certificate from Emporia State University and returned to Washburn University to further her education in administration.
Mrs. Oxandale was a middle school teacher for a year at Stoney Point in Kansas City. She also taught at Pleasant Grove, Bateman, Netawaka, Whiting and Jackson Heights schools, retiring in 1993. After retirement, she worked at the Netawaka Post Office and substitute taught at Jackson Heights and Wetmore schools.
She was a member of Netawaka United Methodist Church and OES Chapter 413 and a volunteer at the Netawaka Senior Center.
She married Glenn Ernest Oxandale on June 6, 1954 in Goff. He survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Sheri Dibbern and husband Paul, Netawaka; a son, Rod Oxandale, Wetmore; four sisters, Beverly Sourk, Topeka, Sue Heaton and husband Ken, Holton, Nancy Gosling, Goff, and Linda Burleson and husband Paul, Denton, Texas; a brother, Dr. Charles Sourk and wife Pam, Scott City; three grandchildren, Dr. Brett Oxandale and wife Brooke, Brent Oxandale and wife Stephanie and Amber Dibbern; and four great-grandchildren, Jase, Gavin, Emmy and Keiser.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Beth Clowe; a brother, Gerald E. Sourk; and twin grandchildren, Lily Lynn and Joseph Lawrence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with burial to follow in Netawaka Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
