Doris Morris 1936-2021

Doris Elaine Morris, 85, of Topeka, formerly of Wetmore, passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, at her home.

She was born April 27, 1936, in Wetmore, the daughter of Ross R. “Dick” and Velma L. (Mayer) Nickell.

Doris graduated from Wetmore High School in 1954. She worked alongside her husband as bookkeeper at Derby Gas Station in Topeka. She also worked as grocery checker at A&P Grocery in Holton and Topeka and Safeway Grocery in Topeka.

Doris married Raymond H. “Ray” Morris on May 22, 1954, in Holton. They celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage before his passing on May 14, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Velma Nickell; a sister, Arlene Davidson; and a brother, Keith R. Nickell.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Morris of Holton and Randy Morris of Perry; a daughter, Linda Baker-Evans (Alonzo) of Topeka; two sisters, Dixie Bontrager (Jack) of Whiting and Shirley Sweeting (Roger) of Key West, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
