Donald Wing Sr. 1957-2021
Donald A. “Wingnut” Wing Sr., 63, Holton, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, at his home, surrounded by family.
He was born June 29, 1957, in Denver, Colo., the son of Andrew L. and Anita Schofield Wing.
Mr. Wing worked in the oil fields in Hays in his earlier years. He worked at Golden Eagle Casino from 1996 to 2000, The Alamo Group in Holton from 2000 to 2005 and also MGP in Onaga. He later retired from Hammersmith Manufacturing in Horton.
He was a member of Christ Church in Holton.
He married Phyllis I. Mapes. They divorced. He married Nikki D. Shafer on Oct. 15, 1992, in Holton. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Heather M. Holt and husband Robert Jr., Mayetta; a son, Donald A. Wing Jr., Holton; two sisters, Sandra Frost and husband Frank and Patty Littrel and husband Andy, both of Hays; three brothers, Fred Wing, Topeka, James Steinback and wife Linda, in Oklahoma, and Joseph Wing, in Missouri; four grandchildren, Meaghan Koon and husband Andrew Harrison, Reaghan Koon, Courtnee Wing and Colbee Wing; three stepgrandchildren, Montgomery Holt and Madison and Maisie Luck; a great-grandson, Hunter Harrison; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Wing and Anita Mewhinney; and his stepfather, Edward Mewhinney.
Memorial visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
