Don Bukacek 1949-2024
Donald Ken Bukacek, 75, of Mayetta, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024, at his home.
He was born Aug. 22, 1949, in Leavenworth, the son of Charles Frank and Dorothy Katrina (Schneider) Bukacek. He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1969.
Don enlisted in the United States Army in 1968, serving two tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1971.
Don worked most of his life as a quality assurance tech at Hills Pet Foods for more than 32 years. He also worked for Goodyear in Topeka, Mountain Wine in Aurora, Colo., and Iron Foundry in Wisconsin.
On Nov. 11, 1972, Don was united in marriage to Sharon Ann Smith. They shared more than 52 years of marriage. To this union they shared three children, Brandy, Angela and Jennifer.
Survivors include his wife Sharon of the home; three daughters, Brandy Renee Moten (Kevin) of Hoyt, Angela Lucille McDaniel (Jason Nichols) of Oskaloosa and Jennifer Dawn Dent (Mark) of Paola; a brother, Steve Bukacek (Cheryl) of Topeka; another brother and two sisters; six grandchildren, Abby and Haley Harding, Loren (Megan) and Hunter McDaniel and Vanessa and Jordyn Barbosa; a bonus great-granddaughter, Margo; and a great-grandchild “on the way.”
A celebration of life will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Holton VFW building.
