Don Armstrong 1948-2024

Don R. Armstrong, 75, of Holton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024, at The Pines South, with family by his side.
Don was born on Aug. 15, 1948, in Wichita.
At a very young age, Don was left alone in very adverse and unfavorable conditions. He prayed to God for help and God answered.
Don always commented that he never imagined God would bring him to Circleville and he would fall in love with an ol’ farmgirl and would be blessed with a loving family.
He was so very proud and loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.
Don graduated from Circleville High School in 1966. He married his high school sweetheart, Data Hutchinson, on April 28, 1968, at Circleville Methodist Church. Don and Data were the proud parents of two precious daughters, Amanda Dawn (Mendy) and Leslie Diane.
He was self-taught at life, which included starting D.R. Armstrong Construction. He would build new construction and remodel houses for more than 40 years in Holton alongside his wife and two young daughters. He ran Armstrong Lumber from 1986 to 2003 and American Wholesale from 1992 to 2010.
After retirement in 2010, he enjoyed his family and attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. He had a love for Kansas Jayhawks basketball and golf. He spent many days at the Holton Country Club. Don and Data played golf in Tennessee, Florida, Colorado, Texas, Arizona and all over Kansas.
He was a member of Evangel Church in Holton and Seekers Sunday School. He trusted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
Survivors include his wife Data of the home; two daughters, Mendy Karn (Terry) and Leslie Smith (Douglas), both of Holton; five grandchildren, Kelli Young (Donovan), Jordan Callison, Cali Price (Tyler), Cameron Smith and Mason Karn; two great-grandchildren, Lawson and Layton Young; brothers-in-law, Dennis Hutchinson (Barbara) and Sonny Dingman; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruby, Margaret, Opal “Tammy” and Sharon Kay; and two brothers, Richard and Jack.
Don will lie in state for public viewing from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Private family graveside services will be held in Holton Cemetery.
