Dennis Hermreck 1958-2016
Dennis M. Hermreck, 57, Onaga, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born July 17, 1958, at Garnett, the son of August and Twila Flores Hermreck. He graduated from Garnett High School and Allen County Community College, and he earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Kansas State University.
Mr. Hermreck was a teacher and coached football, basketball and baseball. He started his teaching career in Onaga and later taught at Wamego, and he was currently teaching and coaching at Nemaha Valley/Nemaha Central School in Seneca.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Onaga, Wheaton/Onaga Knights of Columbus Council 3185 and the Kansas Association of American Educators. He was a former school board member for Onaga USD 322 and was the “Voice of the Buffaloes” for many years at football and basketball games.
He married Ann McNally on July 15, 1989, at Blaine. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Shelby Hermreck, Silver Lake, and Raegan Hermreck, Manhattan; three brothers, John Hermreck and wife Carol, Garnett, Glen Hermreck and wife Jan, Colony, and Tom Hermreck and wife Sherri, El Dorado; three sisters, Lynda Norris and husband Spence, Kansas City, Mo., Jeannine Katzer and husband Jim, Osawatomie, and Patti Julian and husband Ed, Lawrence; and a sister-in-law, Marlene Hermreck, Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mitchell A. Hermreck, on May 12, 2012; and two brothers, Gary Hermreck and Dave Rayl.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick s Cemetery at Coal Creek. Mr. Hermreck will lie in state after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the church, where a parish rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., followed by visitation.
