Dennis Dickinson 1952-2021

Dennis James Dickinson, 68, of Holton, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

He was born April 18, 1952, in Holton, the son of Noel “Bill” and Gene Marie (James) Dickinson. 

Dennis graduated from Jackson Heights High School. He graduated from K-State University earning a degree in history and later graduated from University of Texas at Austin earning a master’s degree in special education. 

Dennis was a special education teacher for visually impaired children in East Texas and Kansas City, Mo., for more than 42 years, before moving to Holton in 2019. 

He was a member of United Methodist Church in Spring Hill and was a special caller for square dances in East Texas. 

Dennis married Cynthia Sue “Cindy” Bonner on March 18, 1978, in Bridgeport, Texas. They celebrated more than 42 years of marriage. 

Survivors include his wife, Cindy, of the home; daughter, Suzy Rhodes (Alex) of Olathe; son Luke Dickinson of Overland Park; two sisters, Ellen Wallis of Overbrook and Edith Davey of Canandaigua, N.Y.; a brother, Jerry Dickinson (Lynn) of Holton; and two grandsons, Jacob and Colton Rhodes. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 9 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Mayetta Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
