Denise Streit 1953-2017
Denise M. Streit, 63, Holton, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
She was born Nov. 24, 1953, in Holton, the daughter of John and Ada Marie Boyce Winters. She graduated from Holton High School in 1971.
Mrs. Streit served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1984 to 1990. In her early years she worked at Trails Truck Stop in Holton. She later worked for KNI in Topeka, at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office as a dispatch supervisor and at Medcare Ambulance Service in Holton as an EMT. Her last job before retirement was as a truck driver for Swift Trucking Company.
She was a member of the American Legion.
She married Herbert Streit on Dec. 21, 1976, at Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton. He survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Kerry Becker and husband Justin, Holton; two brothers, John “Butch” Winters, Topeka and James Winters, Soldier; a grandson, Micah Becker; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Streit; and a sister, Karla Grau.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow in Holton Cemetery. Mrs. Streit will lie in state Friday at the funeral home, where family and friends will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
