Delmar Janovec 1919-2016
Delmar L. Janovec, 96, Holton, formerly of Edwardsville, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2016.
He was born in 1919 in Niobrara, Neb., the son of Louis V. and Marie E. Bauman Janovec. He attended elementary school in the Sparta district and graduated from Niobrara High School in 1939.
Mr. Janovec served during World War II with the 498th Falcons bomb squadron of the U.S. Army Air Corps from May 1942 to October 1945. He later worked in highway construction as a heavy equipment operator and retired from Tomahawk Construction Company in 1992.
He was a member of the 101 Operating Engineers of Kansas City, Mo., American Legion Post 44 of Holton and VFW Post 4834 of Niobrara, Neb.
He married Charlotte A. Dotter on Jan. 31, 1948, at Elk Point, S.D. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Delmar and Richard; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings, Vlasta, Lloyd, Mary, May, Elsie, Thelma, Leonard and Clarence.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Prairie Home Cemetery in Topeka.
