David Hoffman 1928-2016
David J. Hoffman, 87, Topeka, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at his home.
He was born May 21, 1928, in Caraway, Ark., the son of Paul and Una Wright Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked for the Caterpillar Tractor Company, Inc. for 36 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hoyt and for many years was a volunteer leader with Boy Scout Troop 92 in East Peoria, Ill.
He married Verla L. Fulk on Oct. 8, 1954, in Bartonville, Ill. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, David “Craig” Hoffman and wife Janie, Tucumcari, N.M., and Tim Hoffman and wife Brigid, Footville, Wisc.; four daughters, Nancy Short and husband Donald, Scott, La., Kathi Schad, San Tan Valley, Ariz., Lorie Bollinger and husband Eric, Tecumseh, and Amy Hartoebben and husband Ken, Hoyt; a brother, Paul Hoffman, Senatobia, Miss.; two sisters, Martha Helen Jones, Cabot, Ark., and Frances Pierce, Moline, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Hoffman; a grandson, Joseph David Short; a son-in-law, Mark Schad; three brothers, Clarence Hoffman, Bobby Gene Hoffman and Roy Hoffman; and three sisters, Mabel Hopper, Myrtle Brewer and Mary Hoffman.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. Burial with military honors followed in Hoyt Cemetery.
