Connie Wilson 1928-2017

 

Calvena “Connie” Rae Wilson, 88, Topeka, formerly of Wamego, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

She was born Oct. 12, 1928, in Holton, the daughter of George M. and Alice V. Kessinger Sloyer. She attended local schools and gradu­ated from Seaman High School in Topeka in 1947.

Mrs. Wilson and her husband owned and operated the Wilson Cleaners in Wamego. She was also a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she also taught Sunday school, and a volunteer at the Wamego Public Library.

She married Jack Marvin Wilson on Dec. 14, 1947, in Topeka. He died June 7, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Mike Stanwix; and sib­lings, Irvin “Bus” Sloyer, David Sloyer and Virginia Cox.

Survivors include four children, Mary Stanwix, Topeka, Marvin Wilson and wife Michelle, Topeka, Michael Wilson and wife Vicki, Holton, and Mark Wilson and wife Cathy, Topeka; two brothers, Frank Sloyer, Hutchinson, and Paul Sloyer, Cumming, Ga.; three sis­ters, Margaret Hersh and husband Keith, Topeka, Carol Benson and husband Jerry, San Francisco, Calif., and Rose Hill, Overland Park; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Wamego City Cemetery. Mrs. Wil­son will lie in state after 11 a.m. Tuesday at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego, where fam­ily will greet friends from noon un­til 1:15 p.m., then travel in proces­sion to the cemetery.
