Connie Kautz 1956-2024
Connie Jean Kautz, 67, of Holton, passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, at The University of Kansas St. Francis Campus.
She was born April 7, 1956, in Horton, the daughter of Harvey Lee and Eudene (Monaghan) Behrnes.
Connie graduated from Horton High School in 1974. She attended Atchison Technical College and later earned her registered nursing degree.
She was an RN for more than 20 years at Holton Family Practice alongside Dr. Terry Harter and Dr. Joel Hutchins. Connie worked in multiple facilities, including hospice, nursing homes and rehab. Currently she was a transfer nurse for The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus.
Connie married the love of her life, Ronald E. Kautz, on Aug. 16, 1974, in Horton. They celebrated more than 49 years of marriage.
Survivors include her husband, Ron, of the home; daughters, Heather Conger of Onaga and Heidi Tangen (Dan) of Horton; sons, Kolt Kautz and Timmy Reed, both of Holton; a brother, Gary Behrnes (Jean) of Horton; a sister, Karen Vanderweide (Vincent) of Atchison; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren with one on the way; and numerous “adopted” daughters, sons and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Eudene Behrnes; a son, Kody Dean Kautz; a sister, Alice Uber; and a brother, Alvin Behrnes.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2 at the Whiting Community Building. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery at Whiting. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
