Clayton Hunter 1935-2023
Clayton Hunter, 88, Hoyt, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, at his home in rural Hoyt.
He was born May 11, 1935, at Leroy, the son of Arthur and Martha Hively Hunter. He graduated from Leroy High School in 1953.
Mr. Hunter owned and operated Hunter’s Home Improvement, working in the Topeka and Hoyt area.
He married Verla Parsons on May 28, 1955, in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Chris Hunter, Pensacola, Fla., and Kirk Hunter, Augusta; two daughters, Connie Schafer and husband Gary, Mayetta, and Nevaeh Grubb, Lawrence; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Karen Hunter; a brother, Gerald Hunter; and his sisters, Beulah Markley, Opal Bradley and Juanita Godsey.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25 in Hoyt Cemetery. Mr. Hunter will lie in state Tuesday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt, where visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
