Charlotte Gay 1945-2021

Charlotte Ruth Gay, 75, formerly of Midwest City, Okla., passed away on March 21, 2021, in Holton.

Graveside services were held Saturday, March 27 at the Overbrook Cemetery in Overbrook, followed by interment. Services were live-streamed on the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home Facebook page for friends unable to attend.

Charlotte was born Aug. 16, 1945, in Lawrence, the daughter of Charles Floyd and Percie Ruth (Durkee) Anderson. Charlotte was taught by both of her parents who were teachers until she graduated eighth grade. She attended Twin Mound and Richland grade schools. She graduated from Overbrook High School and began her college studies at The University of Kansas when she was 16 years old. She later received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio and Television from Washburn University.

She married Allen J. Morse; the two were later divorced. She had worked for the Topeka Public Library and worked on the Topeka Bookmobile. Charlotte moved in 1982 to Midwest City, Okla., where she met her second husband, Bernard Gay. Charlotte lived in Midwest City, Okla., for more than 35 years. Charlotte moved due to health reasons to Holton to stay with family.

Charlotte was known as a kind and caring person. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and plants. She also was a race fan who enjoyed attending car races, especially Sprint car races, and was a member of a Sprint car racing pit crew.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bernard Gay. She is survived by her son, Tim Morse and wife Mellissa, Holton; granddaughter, Tess Portiner (Eric) of York, Neb.; grandson, Jonathan Morse (Breonna), Wichita; grandson, James Morse, Kansas City, Mo.; and three great-grandchildren.
