Charles Clowe 1931-2022

Charles Francis “Chuck” Clowe, 90, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, at his home with family by his side.

He was born Oct. 31, 1931, in Circleville, the son of Jesse C. and Myrtle (Abel) Clowe.

Chuck graduated from Wetmore High School in 1949 and attended Kansas State University for two years. He had lived in the Topeka community for more than 62 years, Omaha, Neb., for three years, Salem, Ill., for 10 years and a year in McPherson.

He worked in pipeline maintenance operations in the oil, gas and fertilizer business.

Chuck was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church in Topeka, Masonic Lodge and Sunrise Optimist Club. He also delivered Meals On Wheels with his wife for many years.

He married Shirley Ann Shupe on Sept. 12, 1954, in Holton; they celebrated more than 68 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of the home; son, Craig A. Clowe (Penny) of Kingwood, Texas; daughter, Denise D. Scott of Topeka; four grandchildren, Brian Clowe (Krissy), Matthew Clowe (Christine), Ryan Scott and Kyle Scott (Whitney); and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Myrtle Clowe; a brother, Edward Clowe; and a grandson, Jason Scott.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26 at Mercer Funeral Home, 1101 W. Fourth St., Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Chuck will lie in state Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
