Charlene Herbers 1950-2025
Charlene Rae Herbers, 75, of Holton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025, at Onaga Community Hospital in Onaga.
She was born Jan. 7, 1950, in Topeka, the daughter of Kenneth Eugene and Deloris Irene (Schmidt) Reaser.
Charlene graduated from Denison High School in 1968 and was the homecoming queen. She graduated from Washburn University with a business degree in 1972 and later earned her real estate license in 1992.
Charlene wore many hats and her dedication and work ethic could not be matched. Before starting her career, she worked on the dairy farm and raised her kids. After her kids were in school full-time, she worked at the Jackson County ASCS office and was a substitute teacher at Holton and Jackson Heights. She sold real estate for more than 25 years for Pagel Realty & Auction, retiring in 2017. After retirement, she worked as a receptionist at Complete Chiropractic Care.
She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, serving as church organist for many years. She was a member of the National Association of Realtors and Kansas Board of Realtors and served as president for one year. She was a past 4-Her and 4-H leader.
On Nov. 25, 1970, Charlene was united in marriage to Ralph E. Herbers at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton. They shared more than 54 years of marriage.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph of the home; children, Jeff Herbers (Heather) and Denise Peters (David), both of Holton, and Doug Herbers (Breanna) of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren, Sophie Herbers, Dani Peters and Dalton Peters; and two bonus grandchildren, Eryn (Justen) and Cooper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Deloris Reaser.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with burial to follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Charlene will lie in state from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
