Carol Fenton 1951-2025

Carol Rae Fenton, 73, of Holton, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, at Midland Hospice House with family by her side.

She was born Nov. 26, 1951, in Topeka, the daughter of George and Maurine (Crist) Bond.

Carol was a wonderful wife, mother and grandma. She spent her career in education as a PE teacher, starting at Paola Middle School, then on to Centralia Grade School and Rossville Grade School before completing her last 37 years at Jackson Heights Grade School, retiring in 2018.

While she had summers off from teaching, she loved the outdoors and spent many vacations to beautiful locations, hiking and canoeing with her family and friends at Circleville Christian Church. She loved to stay active and enjoyed many walks with her children, grandchildren and friends. She had a great love of gardening, tending to her flowers and vegetables, and loved watching the birds she fed from her back porch. She also loved her many trips to visit her granddaughters in Louisville, Ky.

Carol was a passionate fan, cheering on the Jackson Heights Cobras, the Kansas State Wildcats and the Kansas City Chiefs. During her years as an educator at Jackson Heights, she organized many spectacular “Play Days.” Carol is remembered for the delicious meals and desserts she provided for her family and at many community and church functions, especially her sugar cookies. She could be found at nearly every Jackson Heights sports function, whether cheering on her children and students or volunteering, keeping the book for basketball games or helping with cross country and track meets.

Carol was a member of Circleville Christian Church. At the church, she was a youth group leader and a member of the Fellowship Committee. She was also a member of North Jackson Educators.

Carol married Mark Dean Fenton on March 25, 1978, in Paola. They celebrated more then 46 years of marriage.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Maurine; and two brothers-in-law, Russ Hailey and Richard Hutchcraft.

Survivors include her husband, Mark of the home; daughter, Cristy Ukena (Erik) of St. George; son Andy Fenton (Natalie) of Louisville, Ky.; five sisters, Linda Greer (Stan) of Clearwater, Diane Hailey of Beaver Creek, Ohio, Alice Hutchcraft of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Janet Wolken of Wellsville and Terri Madden (Randy) of Rantoul; a brother, Jeff Bond (Kelly) of Drexel, Mo.; and two granddaughters, Orli and Sadie.
