Bonnie Strader 1931-2014
Bonnie Jeanne Strader, 83, Holton, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at Holton Community Hospital.
She was born May 31, 1931, in Circleville, the daughter of Jess Lee and May Irene Wilkerson Askren. She attended Circleville schools and had lived in the Jackson County area all of her life.
Ms. Strader was a waitress for many restaurants in and around Holton, including Trails Café and S&A’s, formerly Sharp's Diner. She also worked with her second husband as co-owner and bookkeeper of Strader Drilling.
She was a member of Circleville Christian Church and O.E.S. at Circleville.
She married Howard Johnson in 1948 in Circleville. They divorced. She then married James Strader Sr. on July 19, 1966, in Topeka. They divorced.
Survivors include four sons, Robert D. Johnson and wife Barbara, Washington, Ricky D. Johnson, Holton, Jay E. Johnson and wife Sherree, Ozark, Mo., and James A. Strader Jr. and wife Betty, Holton; a daughter, Judith G. Johnson Miller, Wichita; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Isles, Holton; two brothers, Don Askren and wife Renae, Circleville, and Dale Askren and wife Ilah Rose, Holton; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Jeanne Loy, in 1991.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
