Bonnie McNeil 1926-2021

Bonnie Maxine McKee McNeil, 94, left this earth to join her Lord and Savior on May 12, 2021, at Vintage Park in Holton.

She was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Pawnee City, Neb., the daughter of F.S. (Freeborn Sylvester) and Bertha Louella (Buzzard) Bradney.

Bonnie attended schools in Nebraska and Kansas, graduating from Goff Rural High School in 1946. She then attended Emporia State Teachers College, after which she taught school for three years. She worked for four years at the beginning of the NEK-CAP program as one of the original social outreach workers and later as deputy county clerk in the Nemaha County Clerk’s Office for 21 years, retiring in January 1991.

She married Kenneth D. McKee on May 4, 1948, in Holton. They were parents of Janet Lea Zwonitzer and Jack Kent McKee. Kenneth passed away Sept. 11, 1993. On Jan. 7, 1997, Bonnie married Francis E. McNeil in Golden, Colo. He also preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 2020.

Bonnie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior in 1943 at the age of 16. She was an active member of Goff United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years, was an officer on the Goff United Methodist Church Board and UMW organization. After her marriage to Francis, she became a member of Applewood UMC and UMW in Golden, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Kenneth McKee and Francis McNeil; sisters, Ruth Hill, Gladys Koch and Delores Scott; and a brother, Jack Bradney.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet Lea Summers Zwonitzer of Holton; son, Jack McKee (Lanette) of Netawaka; stepdaughter, Lynn Grimm (Stanley) of Staunton, Va.; stepsons, Mark McNeil (Abby) of Newberg, Ore., Michael McNeil (Patti) of Thornton, Colo., Murray McNeil (Sharon) of Littleton, Colo., and Todd McNeil (Mary) of Morrison, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Jay Summers (Kim), Mark Summers, Brett Summers (Allie), Ross Summers, Emily Zwonitzer, Kenton McKee (Amy), Nathan McKee (Angela) and Kristen Jensen (Jay); 11 stepgrandchildren, Jessie McNeil (Fallon), Heather McNeil (Anna), Lisa Rein (Jon), Eleanor Hutchins (Steve), Brandon McNeil (Kenslie), Jason McNeil (Katie), Kaylin McNeil, Matthew McNeil (Kim), Tyler McNeil (Steven), Ryan McNeil and Allison McNeil; nine great-grandchildren, Olivia, Jackson, Reid, Emma, Caylie, Kennedy, Hadley, Colt and Malory; and nine stepgrandchildren, Ada Marie, Niko, Calvin, Wesley, Madeline, Lucy Rose, Luther, Kellen and Rory.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 17 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Goff. Bonnie will lie in state beginning Friday afternoon. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
