Bob Macha 1945-2024

Bob Macha 1945-2024

Robert Dee (Bob) Macha, 79, died Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at home in Mesa, Ariz., after a short battle with ALS.

He was born in Topeka on Feb. 27, 1945. Graduating from Delia High School and Washburn University, he married Anna Ent in August 1966.

After working for the Shawnee County probation department, he returned to manage the family farm, implementing no-till farming and building terraces, roads and waterways. He served on the Jackson County Soil Conservation Board and the Kansas State Farm Management Board. He tended beef cattle, hogs and 15 beehives. He constructed the berm home where he lived and the machine shed where he could fix nearly everything.

He was a lay leader in the Rossville Methodist Church. Charity work took him to Haiti with Anna and MS after Hurricane Katrina.

Later, Bob and Ann traveled extensively in their RV, visiting 47 of 50 states.

Relocating to Arizona in 2017, he enjoyed researching his family’s Czech heritage sports and card games, cookies and all things chocolate — no nuts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Vernandell Macha. He is survived by wife Anna; daughter Michelle Hood and her husband Heath of Beaufort, S.C.; son Robert of Mesa, Ariz.; grandson Daley of Lacrosse, Wisc.; and brothers Garry and Dan.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at Rossville Methodist Church in Rossville, where Bob and Ann lived most of their lives.

Memorial contributions can be made to the ALS Foundation.
