Bill Hards 1948-2025

William D. “Bill” Hards, 76, of Denison, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

He was born July 13, 1948, at Horton, the son of Raymond and Twila Long Hards. He graduated from Goff High School in 1966. Bill was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1967 to 1971.

He had worked in road construction for Koss Construction and helped build U.S. Highway 75. He also worked at Oldham’s, drove grain trucks for area farmers and retired from the Jefferson County Road and Bridge Department. After retirement he did a variety of odd jobs.

He was a member of Holton VFW Post 1367.

Bill married Alice Wessel on May 6, 1972. They had four children and later divorced. He married Patricia Eichelberger in 1999. They were divorced.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Opal Carver; and a brother, Arthur “Art” Hards.

Survivors include his life partner of 22 years, Linda Mooney, of the home; four daughters, Angela Cameron (Jason), Quenemo, Melissa Stephens, in Georgia, Miranda Gallegos (Gabe), Lawton, Okla., and Ashley Dorr (Scott), Lyndon; a stepdaughter, Lori Murnan (Rick), Overland Park; a stepson, Jason Nudson (Trina), DeSoto; two brothers, Ronald Hards (Carol), Holton and Gary Hards (Marie), Denison; 25 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 14 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Mayetta Cemetery. Bill will lie in state from noon until 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
