Betty J. Moser, 97, of Holton, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025, at The Pines South.

She was born Aug. 4, 1927, in Denison, the daughter of Frank and Blanche (Hinman) Decker.

After graduating from Denison Rural High School, she began employment in 1945 at the Denison State Bank in Holton. She held offices of vice president, auditor and corporate secretary after she retired from daily duties in 1980. Betty was elected to the Board of Directors of the bank in 1969 and served until 2010. At one time, she served on the Marketing Council of the Kansas Bankers Association and on the Board of Directors of the Bank Administration Institute Chapter of Northeast Kansas. She was also an active member of the National Association of Bank Women.

During her career, she worked with the local United Way, Holton Cemetery Association, Holton Business Women, Sitzler Fund and Girl Scouts and served as treasurer and auditor for many organizations.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, life-member of Holton Community Hospital Auxiliary, life-member of Denison Historical Society and Holton VFW Post 1367 Auxiliary.

In 1985, Betty was instrumental in organizing the Jackson County Road to Recovery Program – a volunteer driver group for cancer patients. Betty and her husband, Dr. Ross, served as co-chairmen for the American Cancer Society State Road to Recovery. They traveled to many other counties to help organize similar programs.

In 2008, Dr. Ross and Betty were inducted into the Holton/Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame for outstanding leadership and service to the community.

From early childhood, Betty enjoyed and participated in softball, skating and basketball and later, bowling and golf. Her hobbies consisted of sewing, cross stitch and flowers – especially African violets and hydrangeas. Over the years, she appreciated her coffee clubs, co-workers and customers and was blessed with many friends.

Betty married Roger Dean Campbell in 1948. They later divorced.

On Oct. 31, 1981, Betty married Dr. M. Ross Moser. He preceded her in death in 2009, after more than 28 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Blanche Decker; daughter, Connie Schlodder; son-in-law, Alan Schlodder; sister, Virginia Salts; stepmother, Lorene Decker; and stepbrother, Richard Evers.

Survivors include three grandsons, Kyle Schlodder (Crystal), Johnathan Schlodder (Kristel) and James Schlodder, all of Holton; four great-granddaughters; four great-grandsons; nieces and nephews, Pam, Debra and Gary Salts; four stepdaughters, Colene Gutierrez of Holton, Lorene Gakle of Holton, Kathlene Welch of Aurora, Colo., and Marlene Bizub (Mike) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Phyllis Strahm and family of Sabetha; and stepsister-in-law, Myrna Evers of Washington State.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Betty will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the funeral home.
