Betty Kalcik 1929-2024

Betty Elaine (Webb) Kalcik, 95, of Silver Lake, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, at home surrounded by family.
She was born to L.E. and Clara Mae (Crotinger) Webb in Dodge City on April 17, 1929. She spent her early years in Dodge City before moving to Lincoln, Neb., for two years when she was eight and nine for her father’s work. She moved to Topeka in 1939 where she attended Boswell Jr. High and graduated from Topeka High in 1947. Betty then attended Baker University and went on to teach in several one-room schools including Western Kansas, Walnut Hill of rural Silver Lake and Capitol View west of Hoyt.
She married Raymond Kalcik on Aug. 25, 1951, and to this union four children were born: Elaine, Russell, Diane, and Kathy.
Betty was a homemaker and farm wife, and then worked for Blue Cross & Blue Shield for 17 years. She enjoyed music, sewing, flowers, sending cards to friends and family and going for drives.
Betty was a lifelong member of the Silver Lake United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Betty also belonged to the Red Hat group, various book clubs, Grove 4-H with her children and served as a leader in several areas, Hoyt Senior Citizens, Silver Lake Seniors/XYZ, Rebekahs, Grove Harvest Grange, Bethel Club, Lucky 5 and EHU.
She is survived by her children: daughter, Elaine Sheldon of Pawnee City, Neb., and her children; son Jeff and Emily Sheldon, Lincoln, Neb. (Bennett and Reid); daughter, Erin and Andrew Bunton, Oregon, Ill. (Hugh and Graham); son, Russell Kalcik and Lacy Besa, St. George, and his children; son, Travis and Nanette Kalcik, Wichita (Adaline, Eloise and Evelyn); daughter Mallory and Joe Gardner, Hoyt (Colton and Trenton); daughter, Diane and Dennis Morrison, Moundridge, and their children, Michelle Morrison, Atchison, and Matthew Morrison, Moundridge; and daughter, Kathy and John Kinsch, Topeka, and their children, Jake Kinsch, Nashville, Tenn., and Adam Kinsch (fiancée Sydnee Bradley), Lawrence; along with many friends, nieces, nephews and her very special neighbors, Gary and Meg Roberson.
The family will greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 14 at Parker-Price and Davidson Funeral Home, 245 N.W. Independence Ave., Topeka, KS 66608. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 15 at Silver Lake United Methodist Church, 204 Madore St., Silver Lake, KS 66539.
