Barbara May 1929-2017
Barbara Ann Coker May, 87, of Holton, formerly of Meriden, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
Barbara was born March 18, 1929, in Topeka, the daughter of Daniel Edwin and Evelyn Ruth Ammon Myers. She was a 1947 graduate of Topeka High School. She was a homemaker in her own home and had worked many years in the laundry of Merry Manor Care Home in Holton and as a waitress.
She was first married to Lawrence Reed on April 8, 1946, and they later divorced. She then married Harry “Bud” Coker on May 12, 1951, and he preceded her in death. She was married to Hubert “Tobe” May on April 1, 1976, in Holton, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 2001.
She is survived by four sons, Dennis (Adele) Reed, Naples, Fla., Fred (Pamela) Coker, St. Petersburg, Fla., Harry (Sharon) Coker, Holton, and Brett (Ron Lisell) Coker, Northridge, Calif.; two daughters, Peggy (Sammy) Gibson, Lumberton, Texas, and Patti (Mike) Lockhart, Paxico; two brothers, Gary “Bud” Sassman, Richman, Ill., and Steve Sassman, Hot Springs, Ark.; a sister, Jeanne Longaker, Lawrence; 24 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Reed; a grandson, Robert Rose; and a sister, Gayla Fontana.
Services were held Saturday at Grace Baptist Church in the Oakland Community of Topeka. Graveside services were held Saturday at Meriden Cemetery.
