Audrey Oliver 1960-2023

Audrey Ann “Chah-Me-Quah” Oliver, 62, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital.

She was born Sept. 30, 1960, in Topeka, the daughter of Howard K. and Melvene Lois (Matchie) Oliver.

Audrey worked for more than 35 years for the City of Topeka as a parking control supervisor.

She was a member of Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and We-Ta-Se Post 410 Women’s Auxiliary.

Survivors include her father, Howard Oliver of Topeka; two sons, Nick Davenport (Lora) of Branson, Mo., and Kinton Smith (Sarah) of Topeka; four sisters, Deb McLinn (Phil) and Tina Oliver, both of Topeka, Nancy Henry (Roger) of Mayetta and Linda LaBranch of Paola; a brother, John Zakar Jr. of Valdosta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Ronan and Lena Smith; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Melvene Oliver; a sister, Leah Zakar; and a brother, Shaun LaBranch.

She was affectionately known as “Koya” by her grandchildren and “Auntie” by her nieces and nephews. She loved her Chiefs, Jayhawks and bingo.

Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 4 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Che ba qua will be held Wednesday evening, April 5 at Nozhackum Hall. Graveside services will be held Thursday morning, April 6 at Danceground Cemetery.
