Arlene Cathey 1953-2016

 

Arlene Kay Sharp Cathey, 63, Mound City, died Thursday, July 7, 2016.

She was born March 20, 1953, in Clay Center, the daughter of Dean and JoAnn Hannan Sharp. She at­tended Topeka public schools and graduated in 1971 from Highland Park High School. She later gradu­ated from Washburn University with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.

Mrs. Cathey taught special edu­cation classes in grades kindergar­ten through high school for 24 years with several school districts. She and her husband also worked at Community of Christ youth and family camps during the summer.

She married Dale A. Cathey on June 3, 1972. He survives.

Other survivors include a son, John Cathey and fiancee Alexandra Crawfurd, Centennial, Colo.; her parents, Dean and JoAnn Sharp, Holton; two brothers, Gary Sharp, Topeka, and David Sharp, Shidler, Okla.; an aunt, Lois Winter, Topeka; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, William Dean and Shane Christopher Cathey; and a sister, Cathy Sharp Chandler.

Funeral services were held Mon­day morning at Community of Christ in Mapleton. Graveside services will scheduled for Monday afternoon in Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to Linn County Care or Mapleton Community of Christ. Schneider Funeral Home and Cre­matory of Mound City is in charge of arrangements.
