Anna Becker 1937-2025

Anna Marie Becker, 88, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook.

She was born on Jan. 29, 1937, near Denison, the daughter of Walter and Austa (Coleman) Sommers.

Anna grew up around the Denison community and she had lived in Melvern since 1966.

Anna was united in marriage to Donald Becker on March 3, 1957, in Denison. To this union three children were born, Donna, Diana and Dwight.

Anna was a homemaker, operated Melvern Lockers and Market in Melvern, was a filter cutter for Filter Services of Kansas and was a longtime seamstress and alteration expert. She had been a member of the Denison Union Church, Trinity Lutheran Church of Holton and Burlington and the Zion Lutheran Church of Vassar. She was a member of the LWML of Holton, Burlington and Vassar and the Daughters of Zion at Vassar.

She served as a Melvern Jr. Highline 4-H Project Leader, served the Osage County Extension Council, the Melvern Sunflower Days Fair Board and was on the committee that started the Osage County Relay for Life of the American Cancer Society. In her spare time she was able to donate 12 gallons of blood for the Red Cross and Community Blood Bank.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Austa.

Anna is survived by her husband of more than 68 years, Don; by her two daughters, Donna (David) Ball of Leavenworth and Diana (Brian) Allison of Melvern; by her son, Dwight (Debbie) Becker of Melvern; by her sister, Norma Remp of Topeka; by her four grandchildren, Lisa (Tim) Reeser of Melvern, David (Brittany) Becker of Newton, Dennis (Tiffany) Becker of Melvern and Will Perkowski; by her seven great-grandchildren, Allison and Isabella Reeser, Bryce, Addison and Lane Becker and Payton and Kamryn Becker; and by other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for Anna will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Zion Lutheran Church at Vassar. Burial will be held in Melvern Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon.
