Alice Terry 1928-2025

Alice Katherine Terry, 96, formerly of Hoyt, died Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at home in Topeka.

She was born Sept. 19, 1928, at Ashtown, Ark., the daughter of L.D and Sarah Alice Weims Grice.

Mrs. Terry was a cook all of her life. She cooked and managed the Country Inn in Topeka and later did the same at Sutton’s Grocery and J.M. Bauersfeld. She later cooked and managed the Waterfall Restaurant in Holton.

She was a member of the Christian faith.

She married Steve Terry, Jr. on June 4, 1949, in Ashtown, Ark. He died Jan. 15, 2001.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Tommy Terry and David Terry, who was stillborn; a daughter, Debra Lyn Langley; and all her siblings.

Survivors include a son, Tony Terry and wife Carolyn, Plainville; a daughter, Beverly “Jo” Flowers and husband Al, Topeka; 11 grandchildren; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. Cremation will follow the service with later inurnment in Hoyt Cemetery. Mrs. Terry will lie in state after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, where a visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
