Terry Shockey 1950-2026
Terry Lee Shockey Sr., 75, of Holton, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, with family at his side.
He was born on Dec. 25, 1950, in Onaga, the son of Fred and Lorena Rawlings Shockey.
He graduated from Seneca High School in 1968 and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam as a code breaker. While serving in the military stateside, he had a side job with a moving company and had helped move several presidents including Nixon, Ford and Carter, in and out of the White House. After he left the military he worked for the National Security Agency.
Terry was a database administrator for the State of Nebraska and later as a contract DOING BUSINESS AS for the State of Arkansas. He also worked for the Arkansas Teachers Retirement System in Little Rock, Ark. Prior to his retirement he drove a school bus for Pulaski County School District in Little Rock, Ark.
He was a member of Heart of Jackson Humane Society and the Database Administration Forum, also known as IDUG.
He married Marilyn McGinness Rios in 1969. They later divorced. He then married Sharlene “Shar” Patten on Dec. 7, 1996, in Olathe. She survives, of the home.
Terry never met a stranger! He was considered the fun loving, outgoing, crazy uncle and friend to all that knew him. He had a passion for life and always believed the best in everyone. His favorite thing to do was to go the casino and play bingo with his family! He loved animals of all kinds, especially his beloved Lucy and Luey.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lorena Shockey; a son, Terry Lee “T.J.” Shockey Jr.; a great-grandson, Orion McGreevy; three sisters, Maxine Clemmer, Louise Kaster and Darlene McAuliffe; and a brother, Fred Shockey Jr.
Other survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Vialpando (Thomas), Hoyt; three brothers, Bill Shockey, Topeka, Garry Shockey, Shawnee, and Lyle Shockey, Seneca; a sister, Freda Galer, Holton; four grandchildren, Elizabeth O’Grady (Brandon) of Montrose, Colo., Zachariah Vialpando, Hoyt, Hannah McGreevy (Luke) Topeka, and Seth Shockey, North Little Rock, Ark.; five great-grandchildren, Annelise, Ryker, Easton, Declan and Sylas; many nieces and nephews; and his three dogs, Nora, Sadie and Molly.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for Saturday, April 4 at VFW Memorial Post 1367, 926 W. Sixth St., Holton, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This will be a come and go event to share your memories of Terry and to laugh!
