Gwyn Hinman 1938-2026
Gwyn Lee (Daugherty) Hinman, 87, of Holton, KS, passed away Friday, March 27, 2026, at Eastridge Nursing home in Centralia.
She was born July 29, 1938, in Delia, the daughter of Milton H. and Leafy May (Keller) Daugherty.
She graduated from Mayetta High School in 1956. She had lived in Denison before moving to Whiting in 1993.
In her early life, Gwyn had worked as a house cleaner. She later worked at various cafes including the Cozy Café and Snappy Lunch in Holton, the Denison Café and the Whiting Café. She also worked as a med aide at Merry Manor in Holton and nursing homes in Valley Falls and Winchester.
Gwyn was a member of the Whiting Baptist Church, the Ladies Club of Denison and the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. She cherished her family deeply and found great joy in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On Feb. 9, 1956, Gwyn was united in marriage to Ray John Hinman in Holton. They shared more than 50 years of marriage before Ray’s death in 2006.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Wade Louis Hinman; her twin siblings, Oran and Barbara Daugherty; and a brother, Darwin Daugherty.
Gwyn is survived by her daughter, Rosa Thomas (Willy), Whiting; her son, Lee Hinman (Lori), Valley Falls; her daughter-in-law, Judy Hinman, Mayetta; her brother, Leon Daugherty (Pam), Mayetta; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow at the Denison Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Whiting Baptist Church and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS.
