Dot Sosna 1936-2025

Dorothy R. “Dot” Sosna, 89, of Hoyt, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, at her home.

She was born July 22, 1936, in Kansas City, the daughter of Henry and Stella Mortko Dolinar. She graduated from Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City in 1954.

Dot was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta and the Altar Society at the church.

She married Robert L. Sosna on April 7, 1956, in Kansas City. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2019.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents; her stepparents, Helen Dolinar and Al Basey; a daughter, Cheryl Stewart; and her stepbrother, Michael Basey.

Survivors include three daughters, Susan Shumaker (Roger), Topeka, and Denise Murray (Brian) and Lori Winter, all of Hoyt; a stepsister, Marsha Basey, Olathe; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery at Hoyt. Dot will lie in state after 9 a.m. Monday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt, where a rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m., followed by visitation until 7:30 p.m.
