June Ashley 1934-2025

Eleanor “June” Ashley, 91, of Denison, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, at Vintage Park Nursing Home in Holton.

She was born June 12, 1934, in Vermillion, the daughter of Frank L. and Thelma H. (Graves) Herring.

June graduated from Ozawkie High School in 1952. She worked a few years for the State of Kansas in the Vital Records Dept. in Topeka and Slimaker Dress Factory in Holton. After moving to Denison, June owned and operated Ashley Upholstery for more than 20 years.

She attended Bible study at Denison Bible Church and was a quilting enthusiast.

On June 27, 1953, Eleanor was united in marriage to Sammy L. Ashley in Tucumcari, N.M. They shared more than 62 years of marriage before Sammy passed away on Nov. 10, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Thelma Herring; six sisters, Mary F. Robison, Eva Rasch, Lynette Fleming, Leola McLain, Ruth Baker and Helen Sheldon; and three brothers, Jay, James and Leonard Herring.

Survivors include three sons, Randall Ashley of Hutchinson and Sammy K. Ashley (Fe) and Tim Ashley (Leslie), all of Denison; a daughter, Jana Harrison (Roger) of Leavenworth; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Valley Falls Cemetery. June will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
