Juanita Moulden 1935-2025

Juanita Moulden 1935-2025

Juanita Ann Moulden, 89, formerly of Everest, passed away peacefully at sunrise on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, with her husband at her side at Vintage Park in Holton.

She was born Dec. 12, 1935, in Rushville, Mo., to Leonard and Mary (Alexander) Callaway. She graduated from Weston High School in Weston, Mo., in 1953. Fortunately, the spring she graduated, her family’s car required service and repair. It was at the mechanic’s shop where she met Gary Lee Moulden. After a brief courtship, the two were married in Doniphan on June 13, 1953. They celebrated more than 71 years of marriage.

Juanita was primarily a homemaker and farm wife, but did also work as a school bus driver when her children were young. Later, she was a parts manager for John Deere. Early in marriage, she grew a garden to sell produce at the local farmers’ market, but gardening was something she continued to enjoy her whole life through. She grew many kinds of beautiful and exotic plants, shrubs and flowers both in her greenhouse and throughout her yard.

She was an excellent cook and always quick to offer to “whip a little something together” for guests dropping in, even if they only planned to stay for a brief time or had already eaten. Her love of animals led to a variety of interesting pets in their home. This love has been passed down through multiple generations. She especially loved birds, having exotic birds as pets as well as feeding and caring for the birds in her yard, but just not the starlings that pestered her beloved purple martins.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Mary; a brother, Joseph Callaway; two sisters, Linda Jo “Jodi” Callaway and Joyce Handke; and a great-grandson, Colton St. John.

She is survived by her husband Gary, of the home; son Gary Joe Moulden of Holton; two daughters, Gayla Self (Tim) of Muscotah and Glenda Latzke of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; a granddaughter, Ginny Morris of Leavenworth; seven grandsons, Gary Lee Moulden (Lora) of Clinton, Mo., Graham Moulden (Dina) of Topeka, Garth Moulden (Valerie) of Muscotah, Grant Moulden (Rebecca) of Holton, Brant Self (Libby) of Parker, Travis Self (Hannah) of Soldier and Asa Vandeloo (Amy) of Baldwin City; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as a nephew and two nieces.

Cremation has taken place with Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton handling the arrangements. Private interment at Muscotah Cemetery in Muscotah will occur at a later date. Memorials may be made to Faith Home Health and Hospice in care of the mortuary.
