Frank Shopteese Jr. 1947-2024

Francis T. “Frank” Shopteese Jr., 77, Mayetta, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, in Topeka.

He was born Nov. 18, 1947, in Abilene, the son of Francis T. Shopteese Sr. and Margaret Childs Shopteese. He graduated from Amarillo High School in Amarillo, Texas.

Mr. Shopteese served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He worked as a salesman for Phillips Lighting in Alburquerque, N.M., before moving to the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation in 1997, working and volunteering for We-Ta-Se Post 410.

He was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and We-Ta-Se Post 410.

Survivors include two sons, Eric Shopteese and wife Leigh and Brandon Shopteese, both of Borger, Texas; a daughter, Amber Shopteese, Borger, Texas; a brother, Michael Shopteese and wife Nancy, Amarillo, Texas; and five grandchildren, Chase, Star, Alex, Shylah and Stormy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Margaret Shopteese; and a brother, Gregory Shopteese.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16 in Shipshee Cemetery with military honors by We-Ta-Se Post 410. Mr. Shopteese will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
