Evelyn Brazda 1929-2024
Evelyn “Ann” Brazda, 95, of Mission, formerly of Holton, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, at NorthCare Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo.
She was born Aug. 9, 1929, in Kiowa, the daughter of Erwin and Evelyn Agnes (Timken) Schuetz.
Ann graduated from Timken High School in 1947 in Timken and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Fort Hays State University.
She worked as a social worker for the State of Kansas in the SRS Department, retiring after over 30 years.
Ann was a member of Denison Bible Church. She enjoyed knitting, bird watching, her cats and feeding the fish with her husband, Ed.
She married Edward Alfred Brazda on Aug. 30, 1949, in Bison. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2014, after more than 64 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Ann Phillips; and three sisters, Betty Brown, Dorothy Schwartzkoph and Ruth Hunter.
Survivors include her son, Michael J. Brazda of Mission; a son-in-law, Ryan Phillips of Denison; a brother, Kenny Schuetz of Smithville, Mo.; three grandchildren, Travis Holt (Jessica), Trevor Holt (Jerica) and Shelby Phillips; and two great-grandchildren, Rylee and Tucker Holt.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service. Burial at South Denison Cemetery will be held at a later date. Ann will lie in state for viewing from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
