Don Grundeman 1942-2024
Don Grundeman was born in Holton on May 12, 1942, and passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 29, 2024, surrounded by the prayers and love of family and friends.
After attending Holton High School and graduating from The University of Kansas with a degree in electrical engineering, Don was employed by Honeywell in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn., where he worked for 43 years until his retirement in 2008. At Honeywell, Don worked on projects such as Apollo, the Space Shuttle, early mainframe computers and aeronautical navigation systems.
In 1962, Don married his college sweetheart, Marilyn Krogsdale. The couple moved in 1965 to Minnesota, where they welcomed their daughter, Jennie.
Don generously contributed many hours in volunteer roles that included AARP Tax-Aide, engaging with non-profit organizations sponsored through United Way and the Honeywell Foundation, mentoring youth in the judicial system and as church youth leader, deacon, elder and council member.
Throughout his life, Don enjoyed walleye fishing, camping, hiking, cooking and listening to a variety of genres of music. He had a way of meaningfully connecting with others everywhere he went and maintained an insatiable curiosity about people, nature and science throughout his life.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edna Grundeman. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his daughter, Jennie Clare; and two grandchildren, Annalise Bruening and Luca Bruening.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, Aug. 5 at North Heights Lutheran Church in Roseville, 2701 N. Rice St., Roseville, Minn. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with the service following at 2 p.m. Please join us for dessert and beverages in the fellowship hall after the service.
