Proms planned for this weekend
Jackson County students will be dressed in their finest Saturday as all three schools – Jackson Heights, Holton and Royal Valley – have scheduled their respective proms for that evening.

In the northern part of the county, Jackson Heights students will arrive at the school between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. for prom, which has the theme “Midnight Masquerade,” according to prom sponsor Amy Maiers.
Maiers said the gym will be decorated in purple, white, gold and champagne colors, with handmade chandeliers and masquerade masks.
A dinner of chicken alfredo, garlic bread, salad and other items will be served at 7 p.m.
During dinner, JHHS alumnus Ross Allen will be the featured guest speaker.
Dancing and photo-taking will begin at 8 p.m. through midnight with post prom activities to be held at the grade school. The evening is expected to conclude at about 2:30 a.m., Maiers said.

Holton’s prom theme is “The Great Gatsby,” and students will arrive at the school between the new high school addition and the football field between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Bleachers will be available to those wanting to watch the parade of promgoers, it was reported.
The dance will be held from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. with post prom activities following at the commons area. Students have until 12:30 a.m. to get back to the school for post-prom activities, it was reported.

Royal Valley students will again travel to the Heritage Hall at the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka for their prom. The stone building is located on the north side of the main Expocentre just west and south of the intersection of S.W. 17th St. and S.W. Topeka Blvd.
Doors to prom will be open at 7:45 p.m., but students are expected to arrive beforehand for photos outside the building. Terri Griffiths, prom sponsor, said that students may arrive as early as 7 p.m.
The dance will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. The theme for the Panther prom is “Here’s to the Night.”
After prom activities will be held from 11:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. at the YMCA in Topeka, 3635 S.W. Chelsea Dr.
