Betty Fund 1943-2024
Betty Jane Fund, 80, of Wetmore, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024, at her home.
She was born Sept. 12, 1943, in Andrews, S.C., the daughter of Dempsey and Dorothy Mae (Martin) Cooper.
Betty graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1962. Due to the fact her father had been disabled, Betty was able to earn her license to drive a school bus that enabled her to continue until high school graduation.
After graduation, Betty married the love of her life and best friend, Larry Keith Fund, on Feb. 1, 1963, in Coward, S.C. After they were married, they moved to Wetmore. Larry and Betty celebrated more than 54 years of marriage. Larry passed away on Jan. 19, 2017.
Betty worked for Rockwell Manufacturing in Atchison. She began as a grinder and ended as a palletizer, working more than nine years. She worked for Walmart stocking shelves and as manager of the paint and hardware department, retiring in 1999 as service desk manager. While her boys were in school, she was also a school bus driver for Wetmore schools.
She was a member of Wetmore United Methodist Church and belonged to United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her three sons, Bruce Fund (Martha) and Brad Fund (Sarah), all of Wetmore, and Bryan Fund (Mikayla) of Topeka; two brothers, Charles Cooper of Bonneau, S.C., and Gerald Cooper (Patti) of Andrews, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many more extended family and friends.
Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Dempsey and Dorothy Cooper; a sister, Brenda Ethrige; two brothers, Ernest and Lindrow Cooper; and a grandson, Justin Wommack.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 21 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Betty will be cremated after the service and her cremains, along with her husband’s, will be returned to South Carolina.
