Carol Haber 1928-2024

Carol “Jean” Haber, 95, Topeka, formerly of Holton, Carbondale and Emporia, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, at Aldersgate Assisted Living in Topeka.

She was born Aug. 5, 1928, in Butler, Mo., the daughter of Harry C. and Lucy Agnes Wilson Fisher. She graduated from Emporia High School in 1947.

Mrs. Haber worked as a display manager for Poole’s Department Store and as display assistant for Newman’s Department Store, both in Emporia. She later worked for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City. She was a skilled artist working at Silver Dollar City and later taught China painting.

She was a former member of Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton and Town and Country Christian Church in Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Agnes Fisher; a sister, Donna Brink; and husbands, Fred Haber and Clarence Haber.

Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer Nelson, Topeka; two granddaughters, Rachel Taylor and Jessica Taylor; and two great-grandchildren, Xavier Brown and Olive Thomson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 1 at Town and Country Christian Church in Topeka. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. at Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Mrs. Haber will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
