Robert Giles Jr. 1952-2024
Robert “Bob” Steve Giles Jr., 71, Topeka, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born Feb. 11, 1952, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Robert Sr and Irene Toth Giles. He attended high school in Toledo and continued his education with night classes, working on EMT and paramedic certifications.
Mr. Giles was an over-the-road truck driver for more than 40 years and spent many years team driving with his wife, Paula; they drove for Schneider National for 18 years. He also worked at the Jeep assembly plant in Toledo, Ohio, and also served as a volunteer firefighter and first responder.
He married Paula Marie Stone on Sept. 28, 1991, in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.
Other survivors include four children, Michele Hill and husband Grant, Glide, Ore., Christopher Giles, Perrysburg, Ohio, David Hutchinson and wife Liberty, Topeka, and Jared Coulter and wife Bethany, Roseburg, Ohio; six grandchildren, Tabor, Talla, Anna, Lucy, Sara and Zoe; and three great-grandchildren, Temperance, Joseph and Mariya.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Irene Giles; a brother, Michael Giles; and a son, James Coulter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Shipshee Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
