James Scott 1928-2024

James K. “Scottie” Scott, 95, Topeka, formerly of Holton, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at Rolling Hills Assisted Living in Topeka.

He was born April 13, 1928, in North Bend, Neb., the son of Henry P. and Agnes R. Feala Scott.

Mr. Scott served in the military during the Korean War, earning the rank of staff sergeant. He served his first three years in the U.S. Army and his last 17 years in the U.S. Air Force, where he retired. He later worked for more than 20 years for the City of Holton in the street department.

He was a member of Holton VFW Post 1367.

He married Betty Earlene Green on March 3, 1957, at West Palm Beach, Fla. She died March 23, 2013.

Survivors include a daughter, Dee Ann Shupe and husband Danny, Topeka; a son, James “J.G.” Scott and wife Sharon, Topeka; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Tyler, Blake, Kristi, Brian and Chris; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Graveside inurnment with military honors will follow in Olive Hill Cemetery.
