Brenda McClure 1960-2024

Brenda McClure, Miksekwe, 63, Mayetta, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2024, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

She was born April 1, 1960, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Carsie and Elmira Seymour McClure. She graduated from Fort Sill Indian School in Lawton, Okla., in 1978. She moved to the Mayetta area in 1994.

Ms. McClure was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and was of the Presbyterian faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin grandchildren, Mia and Sage Scates, in 2011; a brother, Martin McClure; and a sister, Debra Lynn McClure.

Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Scott and husband Shane, Mayetta; two brothers, Kelly McClure, Mayetta, and Windel McClure, Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Sophia Peralta, Chicago, Ill.; and five grandchildren, Sobie Scates, Carsie Scates, Sylas Scott, Lillian Scates and Anna Scates.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. Burial will follow in Potts Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Ms. McClure will lie in state from 9 a.m. until noon Friday at the funeral home.
