James Jurey 1965-2023

James L. “Pack-Chaa-bee” Jurey, 57, Mayetta, died Friday, June 9, 2023.

He was born Nov. 10, 1965, in Topeka, the son of Lucy Jackson and Homer Jurey. He attended Wichita High School and graduated from Washburn University in Topeka with a degree in social work.

Mr. Jurey worked at the Prairie Band Casino and was a counselor for people with addictions.
He was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi and Choctaw nations. He was a member of the Bear Clan and the Tribal Drum Religion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucy Jackson and Homer Jurey; maternal grandparents, Lorraine Alexander and Robert Jackson; paternal grandparents, Angeline Jessepe and William Jurey; and a sister, Lisa Jurey.

Burial services will be held at the Danceground Cemetery at a later date. Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt was in charge of arrangements.
