Corey Smith 2005-2023

Corey Scott Smith, 17, of Mayetta, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at his home.

He was born July 6, 2005, in Topeka. His parents are Robert V. Smith and Elizabeth L. Long. Corey was a graduate of Royal Valley High School in Hoyt.

He was a member of the Mayetta United Methodist Church and played in the Drum Line at Royal Valley. He loved producing beats with his friends. He had also participated in the Cub Scouts and the Hoyt Livewires 4-H Club.

Corey was preceded in death by his grandfather, Martin Long; and a cousin, Mhari Rowell.

Survivors include his parents, Robert Smith and Liz Long, of the home; his brother, Cody M. Smith, Nebraska City, Neb.; grandparents, Joanna Long, Lecompton, and Bob and Jean Smith, Garden City; aunts and uncles, Milissa and Gareth Rowell, Clever, Mo., Nick and Rowena Smith, Garden City, Nathan and Sherri Smith, Denver, Colo., and Jeny and Steven Bellavia, Lawrence; and eight cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 18 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. Corey will lie in state after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, where a visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
