Glen Swoyer 1935-2023
Glen F. Swoyer passed away April 2, 2023.
He was born Jan. 27, 1935, in Delphos, the son of Leo and Margaret (Watkins) Swoyer.
Glen served three years in the Army Security Agency from 1957 to 1960 where he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He then attended Kansas State University under the GI Bill. Glen graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor of science in entomology in 1963 and then received his master’s degree in Entomology in 1965. He was on the KSU faculty doing research until accepting a management position in 1972 with Industrial Fumigant Company. He worked for IFC for 30 years and became chairman of the board.
During his life, he understood the value of family and education and was involved in Cub Scouts as a Scout Master, PTO as a treasurer, vice president and president, and coaching his children in flag football, softball, baseball and basketball for more than 20 years.
Glen was a member of the Kansas City Serra Club, AOM Corps, Phi Omega professional fraternity and was named in the Who’s Who in 1994.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Loueen (Cooney) Swoyer; four children, Gregory (Laura), Robert, Janet (Corey) Chancellor and Linda (Dan) Slaven; eight grandchildren, Lindsey (Brian) Cordill, Jordan Swoyer (Jessica Stamm), Kyle Chancellor (Natalia), Dylan Swoyer (Katelyn Filina), Kayla (Colt) Gresham, Samuel Slaven, Isaac Slaven and Elsie Slaven; seven great-grandchildren; and one arriving in July, all of whom were the loves of his life. He is also survived by one brother Don (Matti); three sisters, Barbara Keiter, Donna (Ken) Roper, and Mary (Don) Landoll; and many nieces and nephews.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bernard and his wife Sue; and brother-in-law Gib Keiter.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Shawnee on Saturday, April 15. The funeral mass and burial will follow at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Lenexa.
In lieu of flowers, Glen requested donations to Sister Servants of Mary, Good Shepherd Catholic Church, The Kansas City Serra Club or to a scholarship fund to be established by the family for Kansas State students in need.
