Ermyl Broyles 1934-2023

Ermyl Mae Broyles, 89, of Silver Lake, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

She was born Jan. 19, 1934, in Silver Lake, the daughter of William Harry and Florence Mae (Cochran) Reeder.

Ermyl graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1952. After graduation she and her husband farmed in Jackson County around Delia.

She worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield as a claims specialist. Ermyl was a dedicated farmwife and homemaker. She enjoyed her hobby of quilting and was a member of Kansas Quilters Guild.

Ermyl married John “Kenneth” Broyles on July 26, 1953, in Silver Lake. They celebrated more than 62 years of marriage before his passing on Dec. 31, 2015. She is also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Hunt, and a brother, Robert H. Reeder.

Survivors include her daughter, Laura Anderson (Rick) of Meriden; her son-in-law, James Hunt of Garden Plain; seven grandchildren, Chris, Matt (Marian), Daniel and Nathan Anderson and Jerrod (Rachel), Jimmy and John Hunt (Hope); and five great-grandchildren, Wayne and Claire Hunt, Faith and Jack Hunt and Theodore Anderson.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15 at Walnut Hill Cemetery located five miles north of Silver Lake. Family will greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, April 14 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
